Video reaction: Terry White

Hastings United manager Terry White said that groundsman Simon Rudkins deserved “as much credit as I could give him” for getting Saturday’s game against Merstham on.

Rudkins and a few helpers worked tirelessly to clear the Pilot Field pitch of surface water from all the rain of Friday and the preceding week.

“He deserves as much credit as I could possibly give him,” White said. “Look at the pitch now; it barely looks like it’s been played on. Absolute credit, but he does a wonderful job anyway; I don’t think that’s ever been in doubt.”

White wasn’t particularly impressed, however, with the performance of his team during the 2-2 draw.

“I would say it’s probably a game we should’ve won,” White continued. “Whether we deserved to win it I don’t know and ultimately we didn’t. I would say it’s probably two points dropped rather than a point gained.

“For whatever reason when we play that way second half, we seem to get stuck in there a little bit. I don’t think the weather helped in that respect in the second half. It’s something I’ve got to look to address because we can’t keep turning in performances like that.”
