Terry White described the performance of his Hastings United players against Folkestone Invicta as ‘magnificent’.
The United boss also felt his side didn’t deserve to lose the Ryman Football League Division One South play-off semi-final after succumbing to a freak own goal in extra-time.
He said: “Of all the ways to lose a game that was probably the worst. It was just a fluke, freak, whatever you want to call it, but one thing’s for sure it certainly wasn’t deserved because we were magnificent tonight - every single one of them.”
Asked if it was the best performance of his three-month tenure, White replied: “Very possibly. It was the nearest to what I want from my players by a long stretch.
“Cugs (Folkestone manager Neil Cugley) has just said to me ‘you deserved it in extra-time’. For him to say that is firstly a nice compliment and secondly probably a fair reflection on the game I thought.
“For the first quarter of an hour we never really got going, but from then on till half time I thought we were the better side. We nicked a goal straight after half time and we’re right back in it. Then we gave away a quality goal, but again we’ve shown the right character and right desire to get back into the game.”
