Hastings United midfielder Jamie Crellin has turned down a move to Whitehawk.
The Hawks, who like Hastings play in the Ryman Football League Premier Division, came sniffing around a couple of weeks ago - just three games into the new campaign.
The approach did not go down well with Hastings player-manager Sean Ray, who admitted he was annoyed that they had come in for one of his key players with the season still in its infancy.
“Personally, I think you have your squad settled by August and then you give them the first month or the first two months before you make changes,” he said.
“Obviously they would have offered a lot more money than we can but we managed to persuade him to stay and we’re delighted.”
