Hasting United are 25 minutes from a trip to Championship high-flyers, Middlesbrough.
Midway through the second half they lead Harrogate Town 1-0 in their second round replay courtesy of a Lee Carey penalty two minutes into the second half.
Carey sent Harrogate goalkeeper McGillvray the wrong way from the spot for a second successful penalty in ssuccesive games. The spot kick was won by Zac Attwood who got the better Dave Merris and was bundled over by Matthew Bloomer.
Jack Dixon fired over from outside the box on 50 minutes as Hastings continued their good start to the second half, but Paul Beesley missed a good chance to equalise for Harrogates two minutes later when he headed just wide of the near post from a right wing cross.
United then survived three successive corners, one of which saw a dangerous-looking ball to the far post just about kept out.
On 57 minutes, Dixon had firm drive from outside the box beaten out by McGillvray and couldn’t direct the follow up on target.
