Two Hastings born and raised footballers went head-to-head as Brighton & Hove Albion faced Southampton on Monday.
Steve Cook, pictured top, made his first league start for Brighton, while Dean Hammond returned to the Southampton line-up for the South Coast derby at the American Express Community Stadium.
Although Hammond is the vastly more experienced of the two, it was Cook who was smiling at the end as he was part of an Albion side which ran out 3-0 winners in an nPower Championship match which ended 10-a-side.
Cook, 20, was making his first league start in the Seagulls’ defence having just been recalled from a successful loan spell at League One club Bournemouth, whom he joined for an initial fee of £170,000 on Tuesday.
Fellow former William Parker Sports College pupil Hammond, a 28-year-old midfielder who also started his career with Albion and then went to Colchester United, has made more than 300 senior club appearances.
