Davis seeks return to winning ways
Mark Davis will seek a return to winning ways on the main world snooker tour later today (Wednesday).
The St Leonards player will take on Aditya Mehta over the best of nine frames in round two of the Welsh Open Qualifiers at Pontin's Prestatyn from 4pm.
Davis, 36, will be eager to make amends for a disappointing 5-2 loss against James McBain at the same stage of the China Open Qualifiers last month.
But he can draw considerable heart from winning 13 matches during the campaign's first five ranking events, a sequence which began by reaching the last 16 of the Northern Ireland Trophy during August.
Twenty-three-year-old Mehta ironically beat McBain 5-4 in round one yesterday afternoon, while Davis received a bye as a result of his superior ranking.
At number 42, Davis is 48 places above Mehta on the provisional list, although the latter did win two matches to reach round three of the aforementioned China Open Qualifiers.
Mehta is the first Indian to play on the main tour since Yasin Merchant in the 1990s and reached the final of the 2008 Asian Championship in Dubai.
Whoever comes out on top will face Marcus Campbell, of Scotland, in round three tomorrow with the possibility of a tie against Irishman Joe Swail in the fourth and final round on Friday.
