Davis reaches another venue
Snooker star Mark Davis has continued his excellent season by reaching the venue stage of another tournament.
Davis, the provisional world no.29, has earned the right to compete in the Sanyuan Foods China Open at the Beijing Students University Stadium from March 29-April 4.
It is the third time that the St Leonards cueman has made it through the qualifiers in five ranking events during the 2009-10 campaign.
The 37-year-old booked his place in the far east courtesy of a 5-2 win over Stuart Bingham on Friday evening having defeated Xiao Guodong 5-3 a day earlier.
Victory over Bingham, the provisional world no.25, was revenge for a defeat by the same score to the Basildon player in the Roewe Shanghai Masters Qualifiers back in August.
Bexhill man Jimmy Robertson, meanwhile, also performed well in the same tournament to strengthen his hopes of remaining on the main world tour next season.
The provisional no.68 came from 4-3 down to beat Stephen Rowlings 5-4 in the first round on Tuesday and hit a 132 break in overcoming Jin Long 5-2 the following day.
Twenty-three-year-old Robertson was then seen off 5-1 by an in-form Rory McLeod, who went on to beat Dave Harold by the same score to secure his place in the venue stage.
Further details and reaction will appear in next Friday's Observers.
