Davis completes crushing victory
Mark Davis has booked his place in the final stages of world snooker's second most prestigious event.
The St Leonards star will be a part of the Maplin UK Championship following a resounding 9-2 victory over Nigel Bond in the fourth and final round of qualifying on Sunday.
Davis, 58th on the official world rankings and 43rd on the provisional list, opened up a healthy 6-2 cushion after the opening session during the morning at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.
He returned to finish things off in the evening, coming from behind to win each of the next three frames aided by a half-century break in frame nine and a century in frame 10.
Former World Championship runner-up Bond is 23rd on the official rankings and 28th on the provisional list.
Thirty-six-year-old Davis previously knocked out Roewe Shanghai Masters champion Ricky Walden 9-7 in round three and Scott MacKenzie 9-2 in round two when he won the last eight frames.
Davis will face one of the world's top 16 ranked players in round one of the event proper which gets under way at the Telford International Centre on Saturday December 13.
He has now won 13 matches in his first five events on the main world tour this season and is in line for another rise up the provisional rankings.
