The 13-year-old from Hastings comfortably won the under-13s girls' singles at the National Schools Individual Championships on Saturday.

Bexhillians and Weald TTC ace King beat the five other players in her group and all those she met in the knockout rounds en route to the final in straight games.

The Claremont School pupil then defeated Evangeline Collier (Essex) 11-9, 11-3, 8-11, 11-7 to clinch the title at The Dome, Doncaster.

King, who won the national under-11s singles title two years ago, then starred for the South East in Sunday's National Cadet Regional Championships.

Although the team lost 7-5 to East Midlands in the final, British Olympics Observation Squad member King was in brilliant form, winning all five of her matches throughout the day.

Among her victims were England cadet number two Karina Le Fevre and number four Lucy Davidson, giving her maximum ranking points.

King is currently enjoying a purple patch of form having also enjoyed age group triumphs at the Cotswold and Essex Junior Four Star Open Championships this month.

She is the number eight cadet (under-15s) girl and number 24 junior (under-18s) girl on the ETTA Computer Rating List for April.

King is now setting her sights on the English National Junior/Cadet Championships at the Rivermead Leisure Complex in Reading this weekend.
