Glowing Ofsted report for Rye Playgroup

Rye Pre-School Playgroup has won high praise from Ofsted inspectors with many aspects of the service said to be "outstanding".
The playgroup, at Ferry Road, has been establishes since 1969 and currently has 59 children, aged two - four years, on its roll. It is open five days a week for 51 weeks of the year.

The inspection described the premises as modern and clean and p
raised health and hygiene awareness.

Children enjoy healthy snacks of fruit and bread-sticks and easy access to fresh drinking water at any time with water dispensers.

The playgroup's ability to protect children from harm and help them to stay safe was judged as outstanding.

Children practice fire drills regularly. All fire equipment is in place and regularly maintained and all fire exits are kept clear.

Staff have folders for each day of the week containing all the current information needed for children attending on that day, such as health and medication needs and details of allergies.

Facilities at the playgroup were praised with children having regular opportunity for exercise and outdoor play There is various climbing apparatus and the outdoor area has a soft surface.

There is also a large grassed area which is used for nature study.
Inspector Christine Clint said: "Children behave well because they have activities to interest and hold their attention and they know the playgroup routines.

"Staff monitor and supervise at all times. They interact continually with the children and inform them.

"Children are frequently praised for their efforts and are encouraged to remember politeness and respect. Children are settled and happy in the playgroup.

"During the day activities vary to ensure the children experience a wide selection of opportunities for learning.

"Children show a clear sense of belonging to the playgroup because they are fully supported and encouraged by staff who understand their emotional, physical and social needs.

"The leadership and management is good.
"All parents interviewed were very happy and fully satisfied with their children's care."

Julie Parker, from the playgroup, said: "It is a very good report and a tribute to all the hard work the staff have put in."
