Motorists ignoring parking restrictions in Rye can expect tough action as a summer crack-down gets underway.
Police say there will be zero tolerance for those who park on yellow lines and pavements.

Rye police sergeant John Berry said: "We are already targeting illegal parking for the summer period.

"If you park on yellow lines or pavements beware - you will receive a £30 fixed penalty ticket.

"Members of the Rye Neighbourhood Support Team are also out using a new speed gun funded by the Safer Rother Partnership, so be warned, slow down."

Sgt Berry said the problem of illegal parking in the town is a major concern for many local residents.

He said: "When myself, and PCSO's Bevan and Brunton attended the recent Rye Town meeting, a number of persons raised the issue of illegal parking.

"This meeting re-inforced the need for us to combat thoughtless and illegal parking."

Rye traders have also asked for stricter enforcement of the parking laws. Chamber of Commerce members have said many motorists ignore the hour time limit along Hilders Cliff, the High Street and the Mint, making it difficult for other people who want to use the shops to get a space.
