There are changes at Rye Town Council this week as the new council year gets underway.
The council's committees re-formed and appointed chairmen and vice-chairmen.

Cllr Ian Potter takes over from Cllr Sonia Holmes as chair of policy, resources and general purposes, while Cllr Frank Palmer continues as chair of planning.

Leisure
and tourism will be chaired by Cllr Lorna Hall while the council's public services committee, which is the only committee to have co-opted members of the public, will be led by Cllr Granville Bantick.

Proposals to try and merge tourism and policy with full council meeetings were rejected.

The council also confirmed its representatives on various local bodies and groups in the town.

Cllr Ian Potter takes over from Cllr Jonathan Breeds as the Chamber of commerce representative.

One of the key groups is the Local Action Plan Steering Group, formed to draw up policy which will effect the future of the town.

Rye is currently lagging behind other town's and villages in Rother who have already produced action plans.

The plans will be considered by Rother Council when it draws up the Local Framework.

Mayor Cllr Sam Souster said: "This is something which I am keen to make a priority. It is important we press on with it."

Councillors on the steering group are the Mayor, Cllr Paul Osborne, Cllr David Wright and newly appointed Cllr Bernadine Fiddimore.
Cllr Brian Elliott resigned as one of the council's two representatives at Rye Partnership, creating two vacancies.

Cllr Sonia Holmes replaces Cllr Fiddimore on the Rural Rother Youth Forum while Cllr Fiddimore takes over from Dr Keith Taylor as representative on the Marsh Link Action Group, which fights for rail improvements in the Rye area.

Cllr Lorna Hall is the Hotels and Caterers Assocation representative and Cllr Shaun Rogers represents the council on the Crime and Anti-Social Beahviour Forum, which involves police liaison.
