A homeless woman got her way this week after pleading with magistrates to send her to prison.
Amanda Turner, 31, landed herself in court on Wednesday after assaulting a police officer. At a previous hearing, when Turner was convicted, the judge had been ready to defer sentencing and release her on bail so a psychiatric report could be carried out.

However, upon hearing this Turner began kicking the dock and threatening to re-offend if she was released. She was therefore remanded in custody until Wednesday when she appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court.

At her hearing this week the only instructions her defence solicitor was given was to tell the judge that she wanted to go to prison for as long as possible.

Turner then handed a 16-page letter written to the judge and begged him to read it before sentencing.

Having read the letter district judge Roger Ede decided to sent Turner to prison for 18 weeks.
