Students choose book award winners

THE WINNERS of the 1066 Schools' Book Award were revealed on World Book Day.

A high tech video conference was set up between the participating schools to announce the chosen authors to everyone at the same time.

The winner in the Year 7-8 category was Deeper Than Blue written by Sussex author, Jill Hucklesby.

Jill sai
d: "I'm thrilled and amazed that 'Deeper Than Blue' has been awarded the 1066 Schools' Book Award for its age group and has been voted for by students in several schools.

"It was really exciting to know that it was chosen for the shortlist, something I didn't expect for a first novel.  To win is just wonderful."

The winner in the Year 9-10 category was Elsewhere written by Gabrielle Zevin.

The Book Award was launched in January and is sponsored by Kileys Karpets, JEM Office Supplies and property management company, Dawson, Harden and Tanton.

More than a hundred students in seven local schools took part in choosing the winner and over 200 reviews have been written and posted onto the 1066 Schools' Book Award website www.info.njbtech.co.uk

Already students are looking forward to next year's award which will be launched by Jill Hucklesby.
