Hastings Against War held a one minute silence to mark the fifth anniversary of the start of the Iraq war.
Peace activists distributed leaflets in the town centre last Thursday, calling on the British government to withdraw all troops and to increase assistance for the more than three million Iraqi refugees.

Hastings Against War supporter Rona Drennan said: "We met family and friends of people in the armed forces who strongly supported the call for bringing all the troops home."

The peace group next meets April 1 at 7.30 pm in the Friends Meeting House, South Terrace, Hastings.
