Five men remanded for robbery after alleged kidnap

Five men charged with robbery have been remanded in custody after an alleged kidnap in St Leonards on Saturday.
On Monday three men appeared before Hastings magistrates.
Philip O'Brien, 23, of North Street, St Leonards, his brother Lee O'Brien, 22, of the Fox pub, North Street, and Nathaniel Billings, 23, of Knights Meadow, Battle, did not enter a plea to a joint charge of robbery of £850 cash from Luke Stevens.
Flanked by three security guards, and wearing prison-issue blue sweatshirts, blond Lee O'Brien, his darker-haired brother, and Billings, muttered in court and were asked to keep quiet by the justices.
A fourth man, Matthew Orton, from Kent, was arrested on Monday, and appeared in court on Tuesday jointly charged with robbery.
Orton, 29, of Brookland, Romney Marsh, was also charged with taking a Ford Transit van without the consent of the owner and driving without insurance.
A fifth man, Harry Shanks, 22, of West Hill Road, St Leonards, appeared in court on Tuesday and did not enter a plea to a joint charge of robbery.
All five men were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on November 28.
