Hot dog! Hastings has some well-dressed dogs if these pictures are anything to go by.
As part of the July 4 American Ground celebrations, owners were urged to dress their pooches in USA themed outfits for a parade around Claremont.

And they did not disappoint, with more than two dozen dogs joining the fun in the sun.

The White Rock Hotel organised the event and each of the participating pooches was given a doggie bag - with extra prizes for the winners.

A greyhound decked in stars and stripes won first place, a trio of tutu wearing dogs were named Best Pack for their Three Degrees costumes and a young boy and his mutt were named best dressed owner and dog after coming dressed as a general and soldier from the War of Independence.

The judges, led by local councillor Godfrey Daniel - who was dubbed Dogfrey Spaniel after waging a one man war on leadless dogs - then picked a tiny terrier for the Judges' Choice award after he stole their hearts in his hot dog outfit.

And, although he didn't win, Sweep the dog had the gathered crowds all shook up with his Vegas era Elvis costume - complete with golden sunglasses.
