Arts and crafts went down a treat at Church-in-the-Wood at the weekend -with the show raising £760 for the church repair fund.

Lacemaking and spinning, Indian crafts, and the home made preserves were the popular displays at the Hollington church, and organisers were also presented with a cheque from the Winkle Club.

Maddie Blake, secretary of the fund raising committee, said: "The show raised nearly £100 more than last year.

"The barbecue and refreshments were enjoyed by all.

"The men had been challenged to bake a Victoria sponge for a competition, and after our judge, Councillor Phil Scott had a liberal tasting of all the entries, Gary Austin, our new church warden, was announced as the winner.

"All the cakes looked good, proving that we have some budding Gordon Ramsey's in our congregation."

The next event run by the committee will be a coffee morning on May 17, at St Anne's church, Chambers Road, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
