We can ill afford job losses

As an ex VG employee I was saddened to hear that the Company was moving to Hailsham.

The Ultra High Vacuum Company originally known as Vacuum Generators was a family-owned company with a dedicated staff and brilliant designers.

It won Queens Awards for innovation and exports and was so successful that it was eventually taken over by a well-known insurance company. I believe it is now owned by an American company.

It exported to all parts of the globe including instruments to the CERN project in France.

It also supplied equipment to an American-based company called Kurt J. Lesker which has now opened the much-publicised Kurt J. Lesker factory, whose director(Tim Pearce) was the original sale director at VG. A number of skills at this factory stem from some of the original workers trained at VG. I’ve been told (not officially) that the reason for the move is there is not enough skilled workers in Hastings area which is sad as the move will result in a large number of job losses which Hastings can ill afford.
