Vivid recollections of a terrifyiing night

Your features on the 1987 Hurricane brought it all back vividly: it was a terrifying night, but also tremendously exciting.

I remember we watched in disbelief as the large pane of our upstairs window bowed inwards from the pressure of the wind.

And the sound of that wind!

Afterwards the whole area was without electricity for I think it was two weeks.

All the food from people’s fridges and freezers (that couldn’t be eaten within three or four days) had to be thrown away.

One was totally cut off, without radio or TV news, nor telephones (few if any mobiles back then), nor transport.
