By word of mouth, I discovered that there is a NHS aneurysm check service being provided in St Leonards.
This is for men over 65 only.
You only have to go to your doctor for a referral if you are under 65.
For the over 65s it is self-referral.
When my husband attended recently, he was the only one waiting to be seen, the technician wishing she was not sitting there twiddling her thumbs, wanting more attendees.
If only the NHS would make it common knowledge, it would give people the opportunity of using it!
So, hopefully, this letter will inform those who have no idea of its existence, particularly as it is a very relevant function.
There is no service of this type available to women as, apparently, they do not have a very high rate in this aspect of health.
It is called Sussex AAA Screening Programme.
Based at High Glades Medical Centre, 9A Upper Church Road, St Leonards, TN37 7AT.
Telephone: 01903 843834. Buses: 20/20A, 21/21A, 22/22A.
It is a very simple, painless, non-invasive procedure, taking only minutes, so please take advantage of this valuable service, otherwise it will disappear.
