Threat goes against tenet of free speech

I AM appalled to read that Hastings Borough Council threatened to withdraw business rate relief from Baldslow Memorial Hall for having the temerity to host a meeting of which it disapproves.

The council already has a public platform paid for from the public purse, yet wishes to withhold a platform from people with whom it disagrees.

Perhaps it could offer the use of the council chamber to Mr Griffin instead?

I do not support his politics but, having been born and raised in Hastings, feel confident, nonetheless, that it would be the first time in many a year that anything worth listening to had been heard within those walls.
