THE role of a guardian, arose out of the formation of the Children and Family Court Advisory Support Service (CAFCASS).
This was an imaginative and effective piece of legislation in safeguarding the rights of children and young people.
The guardian helped young people to know their rights and safeguarded children often from the idiosyncrasy of the local authority and their ill-informed parents, the former often more in saving money and parents who had little understanding of the law.
I had the honour to play this role with pride and, I hope, some humility.
I am so glad that once again bad practice has been highlighted and the public made aware of the service.
