THE developers of the old Hastings College site in Archery Road, St Leonards, are due to put their ‘amended’ scheme before the council’s planning committee on July 20.
Their first plans in 2009 caused outrage among residents of historic Burtons’ St Leonards and others who care about the town. Hundreds of protesters supported STAG’s fight to save this precious area from being crammed with blocks of miserable little flats and off-the-shelf ‘town houses’.
STAG has seen the new plans and we are devastated to discover that despite months of discussions with council planners and the developers, there have been no significant changes. As one of our professional advisers said, all the developers seem to have done is ‘put lipstick on the gorilla’. STAG is calling a public meeting on Monday (June 6) at 6pm to 8pm, at the Assembly Rooms in East Ascent, St Leonards, to renew the fight. Anyone who is interested in the future of the town is most welcome to join us.
