I REFER to the comments made by the chief executive of the NHS trust (Observer, May 18).
I feel I have to respond because the chief executive of the hospital trust was somewhat disingenuous in his response to criticism made by county councillor Peter Jones.
He claimed they had a balanced budget last year when, in fact they had a £15.7 million operating loss and, as in the past, only balanced their books by a bail-out from the Strategic Health Authority. They are also likely to require another bail-out this year and continue to fail to balance their books.
Running an organisation at such a considerable operating loss raises a number of concerns about the management of the trust and this is a situation that cannot be allowed to continue because it threatens the quality of care for all those dependent upon it in the borough.
