I FULLY endorse Michael Short’s observations on the plan to transfer the Registrar’s office into the Claremont library complex.
The fact is that the registration service is for all people in the Hastings and Rother district (Cooden to Camber and north to Ticehurst), whether they be proud parents, hopeful couples or bereaved relatives, and all require space.
To provide easy access and parking, I would suggest that the county council immediately take over one of the vacant units in the new business park off Queensway (which will become part of the link road bypassing the coastal A259 between Bexhill and Ore).
The on-site Sussex Exchange already supplies excellent catering and meeting facilities - all needs met for one parking space. Please, ESCC, forget Claremont, and make a bold decision to show you care for the many thousands of people in the Hastings & Rother district who have to ‘register’ at some time in their lives.
