Sadness as store shuts up shop

SADLY the Co-op in Silverhill will be closing in March and I would like to thank Tim, the manager and Gavin, a former manager, for welcoming and allowing young adults with a learning disability to work in the shop for a few hours a week.

My son Stephen is one of the young people involved. Of course none of it would be possible without the wonderful support of all the staff especially Mandy, Phillis and Becca who provide the care and kindness and patience needed for these very special people who want to put on a uniform and ‘go to work’ and help the customers.

It will be a sad day when the Co-op closes and an even sadder day for my son who in spite of wanting to work will be unable to because the Co-op has set such a high standard of care in the community that other stores seem unable or unwilling to follow.

So thank you Silverhill Co-op you have given my son four wonderful years of work experience and we are going to miss you so very much.
