Sad to see church ‘at risk’

How sad to see that within the top 10 structures ‘at risk’ published by the Victorian and Edwardian Society, All Souls Church, in Athelstan Road, featured at Number Five. Remember that this is a national poll.

When I was a councillor for the area that included this church, I met with Church Commissioners with the aim of finding a community usage for this once magnificent building.

Now it would seem that it is being left to rot which is so sad and unforgiveable.

The council should be urged to put pressure on the churches’ authorities to market sensitively this former church and to encourage its return as a community asset.

No doubt developers would love to grab this plot for even more soulless dwellings but we should be demanding something far more fitting.
