Residents can look for lantern hazard

IF local farmers and the fire brigade are concerned about the hazards of airborne lanterns, residents can help by reporting launch sites and incidents. One frequent launch site is Azur restaurant on the seafront at St Leonards, where lanterns are launched with the knowledge of the staff (lanterns are often lit inside the restaurant to establish the flame before launching into the wind).

If the lanterns are illegal, the police could take action, if not the fire brigade could make an appeal to the proprietors to desist.

The lanterns are harmful to marine life as well as to land life.
