I’M sure most Hastings residents will welcome the news that the Government is offering local authorities the resources to return to weekly rubbish collections.
I do hope though that our council is not going to play politics with this and refuse to take the money on offer.
I fear, however, that it may do so using distorted environmental reasons as excuses.
Given council leader Jeremy Birch’s almost missionary zeal in promoting ‘environmental concerns’ over the wishes and concerns of local people, I have doubts that we will in fact see a return to weekly collections.
If that happens, councillors who vote against this opportunity should be reminded of their opposition at the local elections.
