I SEE that Nick Perry, Hastings’ Liberal Democrat candidate, has resigned from Unison, claiming that the union’s policy of opposing pension cuts is bad for pension sustainability - despite the fact that the Hutton report says current pensions are sustainable.
I’m impressed at the way Mr Perry has become an expert in such a short time.
When PCS organised a hustings at last year’s election he not only didn’t know his own party’s manifesto policy on public sector pensions but dismissed it - in a town where 43 per cent of the population are public sector workers - as an ‘esoteric issue’ which he couldn’t be expected to know about. Now he knows better than Lord Hutton and three million trade unionists. What will he become an expert in next?
