Public toilets are very hit and miss

I have read with interest the views in relation to the proposal to close public toilets. Since moving here in 2009 I have always felt that the public toilet facilities were very hit and miss. Either poorly signed or poorly maintained, particularly those on the seafront near Warrior Square.

In all the debate so far, there seems to have been one aspect of this money-saving plan that has been overlooked. It would seem likely, that in absence of public facilities in the town centre, there will be a number of individuals for various reasons may feel obliged to make use of the underpasses or other secluded corners. This would require additional and regular cleaning, thereby reducing or eliminating the perceived savings.

I would also like to add that the public toilets adjacent to the Jerwood are a shining example of excellent public facilities of which the town should be proud. There are other reasonable toilets in town, but none quite reach the standard of the Jerwood’s.
