Now work has started on the third phase of coast protection at Fairlight thanks are due to all who worked so hard to make this happen.
Not only did members of the Fairlight Preservation Trust provide £75,000 - raised mainly by voluntary donations from villagers and local clubs - they also drove forward the necessary engineering and financial work Rother District Council needed to obtain central government finance. We owe the trustees and all who contributed a debt of gratitude.
I would like to add my special and personal thanks to Fairlight Parish Councillors who, while I was chairman, also decided to contribute £75,000.
This was a momentous decision for a parish with no history of borrowing. I am grateful to councillors for their courage and resolution on such a difficult matter and for the practical help given by our clerks.
We must remain vigilant to ensure our defences are maintained.
Cllr Andrew Mier
Fairlight Parish Council
