Path has become a free for all

Have your say

I have just read MJ Boutell’s letter regarding the seafront, ‘Are we not allowed to walk in safety’?

I totally agree with this it is sometimes impossible to just walk leisurely along the promenade from Rock-a-Nore to St Leonards Warrior Square without something or someone getting in the way of pedestrians.

Having read the article on page eight regarding rickshaws now running along the seafront where are they going to ride?

In the way of pedestrians, in the cycle lane or the road where they should be like in London.

Talk about health and safety gone wrong, the seafront promenade should be kept first for people, no cycle lane, no rickshaws or two/three wide loads of students.

I hope the above is tackled very quickly as it is the summer holidays and loads of kids, parents, pushchairs, disability scooters and kids on scooters are ascending on Hastings and St Leonards.

I remember when I was a teenager it was just for people, nothing else. Now it is a free for all.

All cyclists and the new rickshaws should pay a fee to Hastings Borough Council like the deckchairs do to go towards the maintenance of the roads and pavements, the town centre and around the Station Plaza which are very bad indeed.

Twice I nearly tripped and fell outside Greggs and the newsagents at the top of Havelock Road.
