I NOTE that Hastings and St Leonards, and other beaches along the whole of East Sussex, and the majority of beaches in Kent and West Sussex, have not been awarded a blue flag for meeting minimum environmental health standards.
When Southern Water was privatised in the 1980s, we were assured that profits would be ploughed into raising standards of environmental cleanliness. That was an awful long time ago.
Southern Water is now owned by financial investors (Greensands Investments Ltd). Could it be that this company is more interested in pocketing the profits for its directors and shareholders than in the quality of our sea water and beaches - hence no blue flag?
