RE: ‘Man spread faeces in police cell protest’ (last week’s Observer).
What a joke magistrates’ sentencing is these days. Here is a man who has caused more than £1,300 worth of damage, which includes the cost of £300 for a specialist cleaning team to clear up his mess. How is it that he is given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay the police £100?
Why not get him to pay for the whole of the clean up - and let’s not forget the £80 for the soiled blanket - a total of £380?
He should have been ordered to pay at least that and more.
How does the magistrate arrive at a figure of £100? It is an insult to the police and all right-minded people.
