LETTER: Where are they going to go?

So Hastings has agreed to agreed to accept God knows how many refugees. Why?

This town is struggling to accommodate the homeless now and yet we see so many sleeping rough. Are we to see the refugees getting priority over them?

Yes, they have had a bad time, but we must put our unfortunates first. Most of them are like the way they are because of circumstances.

Where I live, there are people from other countries who have little regard for this country and the help they are given.

They tend to stay in their own circle and gather in groups, which can seem threatening to a vulnerable person.

They are not approachable, even if one tries to make conversation.

According to the news, private landlords are to be asked to open their doors and rent out. Will there be an exception to the rules, as most won’t accept people on benefits? I personally know someone who would love a quiet, respectable home to rent. Unfortunately, there are on benefits through no fault of their own and would make someone an ideal tenant.

Where is the council going to put an influx of people?

I don’t see many areas in Hastings that could take so many people.

They may requisition hotels but look what happened down Warrior Square and the Adelphi Hotel.
