LETTER: Welcomed news on crossing

We were delighted to read in this week's Observer that, after many years of resistance by the county council, monies have now been found to create a pedestrian crossing at the Ridge in the 2017 budget.

This follows all-party campaigning on the issue over many years. We have written to County Councillor Maynard to express our appreciation of his efforts and those of his officers in bringing this much-needed scheme forward so promptly. This follows promises which Cllr Maynard made to Gary Spencer-Holmes earlier this year to keep the matter under active review.

Local residents will want to ensure that the project actually goes ahead. We have also asked Cllr Maynard for more details on the likely time scale for consultation on the detailed design and installation of the crossing.
