LETTER: Speed is not the only problem

Andy Knight's letter (August 26) highlights the A21 problem which, as he says, has been greatly exacerbated by the opening of the link road before its connection to the A21.

The difficulty with speed limits is that they are not observed and are costly to police.

Maybe average speed cameras should be used much more widely than at present.

Speed is not of course the only problem but I do not know how it is possible to educate drivers to anticipate situations, not to drive too close to the car in front, or just to show consideration for others as these are the real problems which contribute to the accident rate.

Given that about five people are killed on Great Britain’s roads every day too many drivers drive without full concentration or treat it as a competitive sport and not as probably the most dangerous activity that many of us participate in.
