East Sussex Healthcare Trust was placed in Financial Special Measures this week but I want to speak up for the staff doing an amazing job at the Conquest Hospital.
I have visited the hospital on many occasions recently while three friends undergo treatment for broken limbs and more serious illnesses, and I have also received treatment myself, in the fracture clinic.
On every occasion the outpatients service has been excellent with waiting times very short. I have literally been in and out within 30 minutes. When you see the sea of cars in the car park it gives you some idea of how many people are being treated at any one time and the logistical nightmare that must create but the organisation appears very good, the service excellent.
I have also visited friends in A&E several times and of course this is a longer wait, often created by people being sent to A&E rather than seeing their GPs, but doctors, nurses and other staff are giving 110 per cent to ensure emergencies are prioritised and everyone gets seen at some point.
It is easy to get swept along by the negativity regarding the NHS and focus on the things that might be better, but from what I have seen the Conquest is delivering a good service day in day out and the commitment of staff unbelievable.
So to all the staff, receptionists, cleaners, doctors, nurses, porters, consultants, volunteers and anyone else on the front line delivering this great service; thank you.
