LETTER: Care issues did not surprise me

The letter from Heather Taylor (Observer 18) about her treatment and mental health care issues came as no surprise to me.

Thirty-nine years ago my daughter, then aged 20, suffered a breakdown.

Her clothes and body were unclean, she lost weight, walked the streets in a daze.

Her father and I searched the streets until late every evening after his work and my part-time job.

I begged social services for help but the answer I got was that she could lay in the gutter if she liked.

It took three years of begging them for help, we were frantic. How absolutely disgusting and insulting.

Our daughter passed away 11 years ago choking on her food while in care.
