DEAR RESIDENTS of Hastings and St Leonards, once again the organisers of the Hastings Half Marathon, The Lions Club of Hastings, ask for your support and understanding for this year’s event on Sunday, March 20.
We could not put on this popular event for Hastings without many hundreds of volunteers, and you – the public of our town.
We know that movement is curtailed during the period 10.15am to about 1.30pm on race day, and ask for your co-operation to avoid car journeys during this period on the route. Remember that you can move around inside Hastings, and that the Battle Road and the A21 are not affected.
Access during this period to the Conquest Hospital should be via the rear entrance in Little Ridge Avenue.
This year there will be a diversion for traffic coming from the east at Old London Road, to take the ring road via Priory Road/Mount Pleasant Road.
This will mean that Old London Road/The Bourne and East Parade will be closed for west bound traffic from 11.15am until 1.30pm.
Please tell any visitors what is happening, so that they are not inconvenienced.
And now the important part of this letter:
Please come out and support the runners. Although many are local, there are also entrants from all over the UK, and also from 12 other countries, including our twin town friends.
Let us give them a great Hastings welcome, and encouragement when they need it!
There are a large number of charities represented this year, raising badly needed funds. Watch out for MacMillan Cancer Support which was aiming for 100 entrants to celebrate their 100th anniversary and raise £100,000.
Stay around for the heroes to pass you by – fancy dress, wheelchairs and even perhaps a bed push.
If you would like to marshall in your area on race day, please e.mail firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank-you for your patience and enjoy the day.
ERIC HARDWICK MBE
Race Director, Hastings Half Marathon
Organised by the Lions Club of Hastings.
