Leader does not represent views

From: Simon Eaton, Priory Avenue, Hastings

As a life-long Labour supporter I was disappointed to hear that Peter Chowney is the selected candidate for the Hastings and Rye borough in the upcoming general election.

Peter Chowney’s view of democracy is evident in the council’s recent handling on the PSPO on dogs on lead in Hastings and St Leonards.

On the council website it says: “In addition we have identified a very wide range of other key stakeholders including statutory and voluntary organisations working with the wider street community, dog owners and groups associated with dogs, social housing providers, residents associations etc. Where we have contact details for such groups we are attempting to bring the consultation to their attention.”

This council led by Peter Chowney chose not to highlight the details of the proposal to any of the residents affected in a reasonable and timely way before unanimously voting to proceed with it.

The decision to stop the public access to the report on the Rocklands development and the landslide at Ecclesbourne Glen is yet more evidence that this Labour council led by Peter Chowney has total disregard to the views of its constituents.

If you cannot be totally transparent about your decision making process you evidently have something to hide.

The closure of the toilet facilities in Harold Place while managing to retain the public toilets in Ore – Peter Chowney’s own ward – just furthers my opinion that he does not represent my interests.

I will not be voting for Labour in this General Election with Peter Chowney as your candidate.
