IS Amber Rudd seriously suggesting that the solution to Hastings’s problems is to cut back council workers’ wages to the miserably inadequate average of what is one of the poorest towns in the country, rather than raising private sector wages to a decent level?
If so then, as a public sector worker, let her lead by example and donate four-fifths of her substantial wage to local charities.
This will bring her into line with the local average, benefit her constituents and make her a shining example of a politician truly prepared to make sacrifices for her principles.
If not, let her stop suggesting wage cuts for other people.
