SO Tesco says the shop it wants in Ore will create 20 jobs. What about the livelihoods in the small shops which will have to close when the giant comes?
The minute anyone says a project will create jobs, there is an intake of breath and no one dares oppose the plan. One justification for Jerwood was jobs. A councillor has said that the Link Road to Nowhere will create a large number of jobs. Pull the other one.
Jobs are important, yes, but the need for jobs should not preclude proper evaluation of all the factors in any proposed scheme. In the Tesco case, its jobs will mean the loss of jobs elsewhere.
