Tim Pearce –Business Person of the Year. Imagine how pleased and proud I was when I was presented this prestigious award at the recent 1066 Awards Ceremony.

I want to say thank to the 1066 Business Awards organisers but also I would like to pay tribute to all the clever hard working people who have supported me in my work here in Hastings since I arrived in 1976; they made all this possible.

When I arrived and was appointed a consultant to Vacuum Generators we were designing and building ground breaking research equipment which supported the early stages of the development of the now ubiquitous mobile phone.

Later we were to become the preeminent supplier of equipment to the Night Vision Tube industry, serving both military and science applications, a position which the Kurt J Lesker Company maintains to this day.

Since the Kurt J Lesker Company was started we have become a world-wide supplier of high and ultra high vacuum equipment attaining a primary position in the world of suppliers of thin deposition equipment with a very important contribution to the world of organic electronics which we can see in everyday use on mobile phones, lights and TVs.

To achieve these heights we have had to recruit some specialists from out of town but the great majority of employees have been local Hastings-based people who have trained hard and contributed well as only clever industrious people can.

So let me say thank you to all these fine co-workers and friends of both my two companies and many of the subcontractors and spin-off organisations who have worked so hard and have contributed so much to the prosperity of the town of Hastings; it is fair to say I share this award with you.
