The Hastings Observer should be congratulated for its coverage of the brilliantly diverse and moving celebration of the life of our late council leader, Jeremy Birch, held on June 20.
Organised by Hastings Borough Council, in conjunction with Jeremy’s family, the event provided an opportunity for hundreds of us to share our memories of Jeremy’s invaluable contribution to the community and to find an outlet to grieve for his sudden and untimely passing.
I therefore fail to understand why the Observer printed such a disgustingly inaccurate, bitter and twisted letter criticising the event from a resident who represents no one.
The letter appears to be politically motivated and, hopefully, many like me will write in to complain.
As I said on that evening, I was privileged to work alongside Jeremy on the council for 16 years. The values and principles he held and the impact he had on so many people’s lives will carry on into the future.
One Hastings, many Voices.
