I WOULD like to congratulate everybody who took part in the Hastings Half-Marathon, especially the headteacher from Sandown Primary School, Charlie Lindsay and two of his teaching staff, Miss Winchester and Mr Paramor, who were running to raise much needed funds for Sandown’s swimming pool fund.
All three finished in less than two-and-a-half hours, which is a brilliant achievement, the children should be very proud of them.
Sandown has been trying to raise £120,000 to refurbish its 50-year-old swimming pool for quite some time now, and through some fantastic work by Sandown School’s PTA, parents and local businesses we have raised more than £20,000.
That is a wonderful effort as Sandown School is in Ore village, which is not the richest part of Hastings and as we have had no outside help from the council, Sport Relief, Comic Relief, The People’s Millions or even Children In Need in the past.
Swimming in a seaside town, that has fishing as one of its primary industries, should be taught to every child, it is an essential life-saving lesson.
Sandown is lucky enough to have its own pool, which is shared by other schools and various clubs in the surrounding area, it would a disgrace if the pool was forced to close because Sandown could no afford to refurbish the very old and rather shabby facilities.
Please support the Save Sandown School Pool campaign if you can by donating money, time and ideas.. I’m sure all would be appreciated.
