Good owners create good dogs

I FEEL so sad for J.Penny (letters, August 26) and the negative view he/she has of ‘Staffies’.

My wife was concerned some years ago when my stepdaughter bought a pedigree Staffie puppy for her own daughter.

Due to changed circumstances, Bailey now lives with us. A more amenable, friendly and gentle animal it would be hard to imagine.

She is intelligent, playful and often very funny. Her only minor drawback is the she believes that all visitors have come solely to fuss her. (Sometimes she is right.)

J. Penny is right in the supposition that bad owners make bad dogs but the corollary is that good, caring owners make good gentle dogs.

Suffice to say that Bailey has completely changed my wife’s view of the breed.
