CLEAR evidence that Hastings is now better off than St Leonards is provided by a comparison between their two railway stations.
Hastings has a fine new building complete with lifts, toilets and a ticket office that is always manned.
St Leonards on the other hand has no lifts, no toilets (apart from a locked one for the disabled) and there is all too often no one around to sell tickets or to answer enquiries.
To make matters worse, when the ticket office is shut the waiting room is usually closed too, leaving passengers to shiver on the platforms. How things have change. At one time, St Leonards was posher than Hastings. Now we, at the west end of town, are the ones that are disadvantaged.
